‘Take only pictures, leave only footprints’

At East Africa Safari Ventures we firmly believe in this motto. Our associates and accommodations that we recommend are all environmentally responsible and are committed to support and development of their local communities.

Girl tends to goatsMost of East Africa is rural and as you travel from the cities to remote areas you will be struck by the ever changing contrasts. Many tribes still live in handmade mud and thatched huts and continue their traditional way of life untouched by the modern world. It is humbling to experience an authentic encounter with these communities, where visits are unplanned and nothing is staged, giving you the opportunity to interact and discover new cultures. You will be happily welcomed into a ‘manyatta’ to sit and listen to their stories or spend a day helping with daily chores - collecting water with the ladies or herding cattle with young boys, visit a bustling market where tradesmen sell basic goods and cattle are traded, visit a school where the children enthusiastically take part in lessons or stop at a clinic providing medical care and take part in a marriage or graduation ceremony. There are opportunities to get involved in long term community projects and we can arrange for you to spend time assisting these projects.

Many properties that we support are on community land and are the major source of income for that community. Those from the community employed at properties are always willing to share the skill of spear throwing or using a bow & arrow, some are hosted by the tribesmen and join you to talk about their culture. You could also join in a football match with the ‘rival’ lodge.

These are memories that you will cherish long after you have returned home.

Mpopongi School ChildrenEach guest who travels on safari with us is automatically contributing to Community projects that we support through donations that we make. Further donations can also be made directly to any of these and we will ensure that the funding is well managed. Projects that we currently support are:
- Nyumbani Children’s Home – Karen, Nairobi
- The Nest Children’s Home – Limuru, Nairobi
- Mpopongi Primary School – Maasai Mara
- Esititi Primary School – Amboseli

If there is a specific project in which you are interested we will happily assist you in obtaining further information and planning your safari around these activities.
