Tumaren Camp

Why we recommend it? This little known jewel is ideal for families looking for an active and adventurous safari experience. Overlooking hills with stunning rocky outcroppings and with magnificent view towards Mt Kenya, Tumaren is best known for offering camel-assisted walking safaris, where everyone can enjoy the freedom of stepping out of the safari car and exploring the bush on foot. Children of all ages (and their parents) love the wide range of activities on offer, including proper rock-climbing, fishing and tubing in the Ewaso Nyiro river and learning some real Samburu bushcraft.

Tumaren Camp

Tumaren Camp is located on a 3,000 acre ranch and is home to some of the species only found in northern Kenya which include Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy Zebra, Beisa Oryx and Gerenuk. Large herds of elephant have made Tumaren a preferred maternity for giving birth to their young and many predators including lion, leopard and cheetah can be found. The camp has 6 en-suite tents and can sleep up to 4 or 5 guests in each. Whether you’re relaxing around camp, watching the game come down to the water hole or enjoying all of the fun activities of an action packed day, meeting the female and baby camels in their pen, the camp is an ideal place to relax.

Tumaren Camp
The camp is the base for the best camel-assisted walking safaris that traverse beautiful landscapes walking through a great variety of country from high montane forest to broad sand rivers and each is custom built to suit your needs.

A mobile walking safaris is supported by camels who carry all the gear from campsite to campsite, whereas on a walking safari from Tumaren Camp or the Satellite Camp you head out each day on walks, camel rides, game drives, or rock climbing.
