The Big Five

Historically the phrase ‘Big Five’ was coined by African hunters and refers to the five most difficult and dangerous animals to hunt on foot. But nowadays the term often refers to some of Africa’s most popular wildlife, the lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros.

But being on safari isn’t about ticking boxes. All African wildlife species are incredible in their own way. Don’t speed past an elegant giraffe or beautiful cheetah to seek out an elephant just because it’s on your Big Five check list.

Due to the diversity and random nature of wildlife in their natural habitats, we can’t guarantee that you will see every species of wildlife on the Big Five list. But whether in Tanzania or Kenya, ultilising our expert naturalists and specialists knowledge of wildlife and their habitats you will have a great opportunity to be in environments that will allow fabulous wildlife sightings.
